Don't Sweat It, Teaching Is Hard: A mini blog
Hello everyone! So I've been teaching a few people in real life and it is hard. It is.
One of these people is very very bad at it. I decided to use flashcards to explain the name of the piece. For example:
" *Me* Piece name: Pawn.
The way it moves: it can only go up the board in the line it starts in. On its first move it can move up 2 spaces after that it can only move up one. Understand? *Student* yes I understand. *Me*
It can change its 'lane' or 'file' only by taking another piece."
Then I would go through all the pieces and then ask her what their name was and how they moved and she was completely lost. "*Student* so the pawn moves in a 1-2 step? *Me* face in the palm. No, a pawn can only move up. What you thinking of is the knight. *Student* huh, ok."
" Huh ok" is all she could say. I was like " you do know I change by the hour right?" She said, " yeah I do."
Big smile haha.
Thanks for reading this mini blog, everyone! I hope you got a few laughs because this was supposed to be a comedy. I know it's not the best, but I did try. And this story is not true. I made it up.
