The Pirc Defense: Week 6 - September 17, 2011
The Pirc Defense is a very interesting opening. Using it will allow you to develop your pieces in great spots, but with limited space. The point of this opening in general is to open up your bishops and attack the center with your knights. A very strong disadvantage to this opening is that it provides White with control over the center.
A move that I would suggest for White in this situation would be 2... d4. This is a very logical move because it provides a firm control over the center. It will also provide a suitable amount of time for you to develop your minor pieces. One very important thought to keep in mind is that Black will most likely attack with his/her Knights and Bishops.
