UPDATE 6.12.2025: I redo the whole thing, added a few photos and positions.

As it's going to be 1 year after Gukesh's victory on Dec 12 2024, I redo it because the last one wasn't that good and I hope this version would be better than the last.

As we all know by now, we have a new champion - Gukesh D! What a feat by the youngster.

Firstly, congrats Gukesh on the victory. A pleasure to see you win, your courage has been paid. Your skills are very sharp, you can win games against people who we think are "impossible" to beat. May your skills became stronger and one day reach the #1 spot

Here's the scoreboard and thankfully no tiebreaks in this match:

What an absolute cinema. Draws and decisive games all over, players snatching back and after all, the favor went for Gukesh in game 14: 7.5 - 6.5. Here's the 14th game of the match, absolute cinema by both players:

Next, their emotions (Seriously, everyone has emotions):

When it's around a few minutes before the game ended, Ding's face looks red and he's crying while Gukesh is walking around and then when Ding resigns, Gukesh went in tears of joy. He put the pieces back, drinks water and celebrated! What a moment for the 18 year old becoming the 18th world champion.

Last but not least, the craziest moments:

1- Ding went and sacrificed the pawn. Too risky for the last game when they're on stakes.

2- Position is drawing but Ding has a hard time trying to fight to save his game and match.

As you can see on the picture above, It's a draw R+B endgame with Gukesh up a pawn. But if not played correctly, the tables will turn.

Position after 54...Ke5

3- Everyone thinks 55.Rf2?? is normal right?. But 55.Rf2?? is where ends meet and tables turn 180 degrees as after 55...Rxf2 56. Kxf2 Bd5! And white is hopeless as he will get in a dead lost position. Like the position shown:

Position after 56...Bd5!

Final remarks: Congrats again, your win is not just a win. It also proves that you are not just a star but a champion and an inspiration for other bright talents.

In case if you don't know: Gukesh wanted to be the next world champion after Viswanathan 'Vishy' Anand lost the title to Magnus Carlsen in 2013, here's the game where it ended Vishy's reign:

Closing Words: Hope everyone is happy and safe. Congrats to Guki! Make sure to protect your title in 2026! I'll be there to celebrate for you. I know Grand Swiss 2025 was a bad tournament for you but don't be depressed, everyone has a bad time but they didn't give up and come back stronger! I hope you will do the same. You're always my inspiration!

Thanks for almost 1000 views on this! Your support is never small, it's a part of something bigger!

I'll pin some videos here to show the moment when Gukesh became the 2024 World Champion! Credits for the creators!:
