The world's top players at Capechecs !
They have engraved their names in gold on the Trophy’s roll of honor: Gelfand, Karpov, Gurevich, Anand, Radjabov, Nakamura, Ivanchuk, Topalov, and of course, Etienne Bacrot and Laurent Fressinet.
These champions forged the legend of CAPECHECS after their triumphs in the arena of the Salle Molière. The hall was plunged into darkness. Music roared as the two finalists made their dramatic entrance. Only the winner would be celebrated by a jubilant crowd. Beforehand, each new hero had conquered some of the world’s greatest players. These virtuosos were warriors. To name just three: Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave all fell short in their quest for this prestigious title.
Gender Parity
In 2006, mixed participation was first introduced—a revolution at such a level of competition. In 2012, CAPECHECS went even further by enforcing gender parity, thanks to a proposal by Karpov. From Judit Polgar to Hou Yifan and Ju Wenjun, the world’s greatest female champions have placed Cap d’Agde firmly on the global chess map.
Quote of the Day
"I remember very well my first official World Rapid Championship title, won here in Cap d’Agde. It was a very strong tournament. I played really well. This tournament has a beautiful tradition, and I’m happy to see it continue."
— Vishy Anand
