Dear chess players, in your chess journey you will start playing more games. During needed analysis of your games, you may wonder why didnt you start finding good moves. While there could be more reasons, I think this blog will lead you to start making better decisions during your chess games.
STEP 1: Make a plan
First you should develop your style. If you are tactical player, try to look for ways to make counterplay if you are under attack, look for pawn breaks and try to activate every piece in your attack. Try a rook lift, do not trade if that trade benefit your opponent, keep your queen, plop a knight in center and try to sacrifice pawns to open lines for heavy pieces in attack. If you are positional or defensive player, calculate your plan and try to create weekness in oppoent position. Focus attack on attacking weekness and try to keep your position extra safe. Try to activate your pieces and play for iniative or create threats aggainst opponent ieces and resources.
STEP 2: Play for iniative
Whetever is your style, try to attack opponent resources and pieces as much as you can. Use pawns to distract opponent pieces and follow your plan. GOLDEN RULE: See if you can attack or capture anything.
STEP 3: Calculate everything
See your opponent threats and try to minimalize their threats as possible.
STEP 4: Before deciding, check if you can blunder
Obavious but check if yur opponent can attack you by force, innterupt connection between your pieces or simply capture your pieces.
