Poetry on Chess
These are some marvelous and inspirational poems about Chess.
Last Move
We played the night…
though it was dark, and I was silent, in despair
heavy the air that fell around
yet, peace ruled the players—there.
One move, then two, the silence stretched
no spoken words were ever said
the first move gave the game away
I saw it from the start.
Oh! little man, you’ve played your best,
but learn to play the game
when death comes knocking at your door
resign yourself to stay.
Death came to take me far away
where silence rules the night
a place of peace and restful thoughts
that’s where I will stay and lie.
Checkmate came so very fast
I never saw the move…
I played the best I could
Yet, really never understood.
Battle without blood rewritten
In a world that's black and white
We fight a doppelganger fight
Bishops turn violent
And kings call for heads
Till every rook is toppled
And every queen is dead
A war rages across a checkered battlefield
The knights mount their horses
And the pawns raise their shields
The massacre is witnessed from a bird's eye view
You have my deepest condolences
But in this battle without blood
I've checkmated you
Brawn over brains ( beating Keith )
And one lunchtime it was raining;
So I went to the chess club,
The champion;
My opponent,
We set the timer and the match began,
I averaged twenty seconds a move,
Keith four,
He was gliding his army round the board with ease;
Without any formal training I was rusty,
It was like walking in deep snow,
Needless to say
I lost,
I was the most intelligent kid in class
And had been humiliated,
My pride was wounded
So I met him after school and wounded his face
With my fists,
A case of brawn over brain
But in what match?
