this is my first blog, and it ain't gonna be a good one. Chess has meant a lot to me over the years. From relieving complete boredom, to easing my mind after a stressful day's work, chess has always been a solid outlet when it comes to hobbies and games.

chess for the win!

I'm by no means an expert on Chess. I just want to give my personal view on the aspect of the Dojo. Here it goes:

Chess is a sport of the mind. Everybody has different styles, techniques, and ways of thinking. Chess is where the mind goes to do backflips, hurdles, and spins. It's a gym for the brain. I see puzzles as the Dojo of Chess. This is the place where you refine your skills, and think about different ideas. In the Dojo, you will fail. But failure isn't a bad thing in Chess. It's actually very good. When you fail, the mind takes that failure, and refines it so that way the next time you're presented with the same problem, you succeed. Calculation is the most important thing to do when you're in the Dojo, and it's exactly the reason why you should enter it. Without practice, and without improvement in calculation, you will not improve.

Personally, I've been stuck around the 1400-1500 rating range for about 5 months now. In Chess, and in everything in life, improvement comes in plateaus. Never get discouraged or upset when you reach a plateau, because it's part of the process of learning. Always look to the Dojo as one of the many aspects breaking through, and never give up.

Sincerely,

Just another person who loves Chess.
