Hej, har du spist din morgenost dansk? Meaning Hello, Have you eaten your morning cheese Danish? Well today we are looking at a gambit that has good effects for white. The History of it is not clear but I found some history from Wikipedia. This blog is also not going to be a very long one.

Wikipedia: From the very beginning the nomenclature of the Danish Gambit was very confusing. The idea stems from a famous correspondence game London–Edinburgh, 1824: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Bc4 Bc5 5.c3 Qe7 6.0-0 dxc3 7.Nxc3. The Swede Hans Lindehn played 1.e4 e5 2.d4 exd4 3.c3 on a regular basis from 1857 at the latest. He defeated the later World Champion Wilhelm Steinitz with his gambit in London, 1864. It is possible that Martin Severin From met Lindehn in Paris in this period and learned about the gambit there. According to Graham Burgess, in Denmark itself, the opening is called the Nordic Gambit.

This gambit looks like a Scotch gambit started without the knights out. This gambit is very bad for black if he accepts the gambit.

Here are whites fundamentals for the Danish gambit

  • Develop as quickly as possible (don't delay)
  • Avoid trading your bishops (attack will be very hard without them)
  • Attack ,attack and attack the king side

Before we get started I found a really cool example of what happens from Marvel.

If you see from 2:08 til Venom gets flattened thats a really good example of this opening. Now lets Begin the lesson. Oh one more thing before we start. IF YOU ARE NOT AN AGGRESSIVE PLAYER OR A PLAYER WHO DOES NOT PLAY GAMBITS STOP LOOKING.

Here's The beginning on the board

This has good things happening for white on the first few moves. First of all white is ahead in development. White also has a great king side attack on black with his 2 bishops.

Usually after this position above the main move Bb4+. Is a kind of trap. If white blocks the check from black with his bishop white is losing. So white Blocks with the knight. After this usually Nf6 is played and that in master games white wins a hundred percent. Proof:

Now usually the move continuation is Qb3 and Qe7. Thats the beginning.

Which is going To be a huge battle

Oh and see if you can sove this puzzle.
