"Ramo Mujagić Memorial 2025" Chess Tournament Report

Organized by the "For the Right to a Quality Life" association from Petrovaradin, Serbia and supported by the Serbian Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran, and Social Affairs – Sector for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities, the "Ramo Mujagić Memorial" tournament was successfully held as part of the "Gens una sumus project".

The tournament was officially opened by Jelena Radojčić, representative of the Sector, who addressed the participants and made the ceremonial first move in the game between distinguished guest Osama Raya from Syria and Grandmaster Aleksandar Kovačević, a former Serbian champion and national team member.

The tournament saw the participation of 38 chess players, including one Grandmaster, one International Master, four FIDE Masters and one Arena International Master, which contributed to a high level of play and competitive spirit. The international character of the event has been secured through participation of players from Syria and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

🏆 Grandmaster Aleksandar Kovačević secured first place, ahead of FIDE master Dejan Omorjan and International Master Anđelko Dragojlović. The tournament was marked by fair play and a friendly atmosphere. Complete results are available on this page.

A significant segment of this event was comprised of chess players with disabilities, who made up one-third of the participants. Among them, members of the Association of Disabled Workers of Novi Sad and the Society for Sport and Recreation of Disabled Workers Bačka particularly stood out. Guests from Syria and Bosnia and Herzegovina also contributed to the tournament's international character with their participation.

In memory of Ramo Mujagić, Krasoje Notaroš, a legend of Serbian chess, spoke inspiringly about his life and work. He reminded those present of the strength of spirit of a man who, despite being severely disabled from early childhood, found a path to recognition, a home, and respect in the community precisely through chess.

The tournament was officiated by FIDE Master Siniša Remecki. Catering and refreshing drinks were provided for all participants, further enhancing the pleasant atmosphere.

The president of the association, Mr. Mladen Savić, thanked the Sector for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities for their continuous support in organizing this chess festival. For the fourth consecutive year, it has promoted inclusion, mutual respect, and a life worthy of a human being.
