Hi, this is second blog about weird openings. In first blog we were exploring one interesting defense for black. Now we are going to look on one opening for white also. This opening is called Samurai opening but it can also be called Desprez opening, Anti-Borg opening (because it doesn't allow g5) or Kadas opening after Hungarian player Gabor Kadas. First move of this opening is h4.
This move breaks all rules about cental control or piece development. Pawn h4 doesn't influence centre or open some diagonal for bishop like 1.e4 and 1.d4. Beginners often play this opening because they want activate rook. But this thinking isn't correct.
First recorded game of Samurai opening was played in year 1950, between Kabes with white and Leitner with black. The code ECO is A00, which mean irregular opening. From 20 first possible moves is h4 the most rare first move for white.
Main idea for white can be this position.
But black should try to prevent that because in this positon white is probably equal maybe slightly better.
Main players of this opening are Kadas and Ats
