Hi ChessKid family. Last month, we hosted one of ChessKid's biggest events to date: The ChessKid Youth Speed Chess Championship!

First off, congrats to our winner: NM Ryo Chen from Texas!

Next, we wanted to list all of the content from the tournament in one place. That way, you can relive it at your own pace. The links below have the games, recap article, videos, commentary, and more.

This tournament featured some of the world's best 10-and-under players over three weekends in July. This marquee event for Chess.com's scholastic site built on the success of other events in the Speed Chess Championship series

The Speed Chess Championship -- like its predecessors -- consisted of one-on-one knockout matches. All matches were broadcast on Chess.com/TV, with FunMasterMike and a variety of guest hosts, including IM David Pruess, GM Rashad Babaev, and Jonathan Corbblah. The full rules from the event can be found here and the initial player list is here

Opening Round:

  • CM Shreyas Royal vs. NM Brewington Hardaway (winner): Video
  • FM Marco Materia (winner) vs. Tani Adewumi: Video
  • NM Ryo Chen (winner) vs. CM Santiago Lopez Rayo: Video

Read here for gameplay and a list of the semifinalists.

Semifinals: the semifinalists included Brew, Marco, Ryo, and newcomer NM Alice Lee of Minnesota.

Finals

  • NM Ryo Chen (winner) vs. FM Marco Materia: Video

The final round, like the tournament in its entirety, was a breathtaking display of talent. Read FunMasterMike's take on the thrilling finals here.

Thanks to all the players and fans and we will see you for the second edition in 2021!
