What is Hour of Chess Week?

ChessKid 'Hour of Chess Week' invites schools to dedicate a week to playing chess for at least one hour. The goal is to introduce and encourage as many schools worldwide to try the classic educational game and see if running a chess club is something their kids would enjoy. 

ChessKid.com made it possible for students at the school to play chess with students still learning from home. The students really enjoyed the hour playing each other.

Prize Opportunities

All participating schools will be entered into a drawing to win the main prize of 500 ChessKid Gold Memberships ($5,000 USD value) for their entire school. In addition, five schools will receive prize packages of 20 ChessKid Gold Memberships ($700 USD value) or $75 gift certificates to the ChessKid Shop.

NEW this year: Schools that sign up by November 1, 2023, will be entered into a special drawing to win a $100 gift certificate to the ChessKid Shop. Gear your chess club or classroom with chess sets, chess books, and more!

How Do I Participate?

Sign up your school for 'Hour of Chess Week' with a scheduled time and meeting preference to participate during the week of November 13-17, 2023.

There is no cost to participate! Only great prize offers of growing chess education.

To enter the drawing for the additional prizes of 20 gold memberships or $75 gift certificates, share photos of your chess class, in person or virtual, using the hashtag #HourofChess23 on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Five winners will be subjectively chosen as our favorite photos and featured on all ChessKid media channels.
