[Blog History]

A few weeks ago, almost a month now in fact, I posted a blog about Anand's hesitancy in deciding if he's going to take part in the upcoming Candidates tournament to decide who will face Carsen in the new young Champion's reign. Anand first said no, then changed his mind to maybe. Well, it's now confirmed that the former Champion will participate in the tournament which will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia

The tournament, which will take place from March 11th to April 1st, is a 14 round, double round robin event. The time controls will be 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, 60 minutes for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game plus an additional 30 seconds per move starting from move 61 and the eight players taking part are:

1. Vishy Anand          India
2. Vladimir Kramnik          Russia
3. Dmitry Andreikin          Russia
4. Veselin Topalov          Bulgaria
5. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov          Azerbaijan
6. Levon Aronian          Armenia
7. Sergey Karjakin          Russia
8. Peter Svidler          Russia

It seems Anand isn't through yet and wants to have another go at Magnus Carlsen. The winner will receive 95,000 euros while the 8th place candidate gets 17,000 euros.

Have a good day everyone!  Laughing
