Top Chess Mistakes and Blunders
In this blog, we will discuss some kinds of mistakes and blunders in chess. It happens to everyone. Whenever you lose a game, stop and analyze it. If you are tilted, stop playing and practice your tactics or take a break and then come back tomorrow to play again.
1. Mate in 1 or 2+: Always see one move checkmate threats even if you are in a winning position or the game is over and it doesn't matter how much of an advantage you have.
2. Undefended/Hanging Pieces: This happens when you miscounting the number of attackers and defenders or a lower valued piece attacks a higher valued piece.
3. Missing Threats: Your opponent can take advantage of your blunders and can cause you to lose material or cost you the game.
4. Not Thinking about Opponent's Plans: When your opponent makes a move then think what is his idea behind that move. He can setup a trap or a swindle for you especially in the opening.
5. Time Trouble: Try to capture your opponent's last few pieces so that if you don't have enough time to checkmate, your time will run out but your opponent doesn't have mating material and at least you get the draw. Make premoves especially in bullet/blitz chess time controls. However, premoves can make you lose the game because your opponent might do something unexpected. Never think more than 5 seconds if you are below 20 seconds on the clock. Always stay ahead on time than your opponent and give check so his premoves don't work (All premoves are illegal when your opponent puts your king in check).
