Reflection on a video "Why are all World Championship game reviews so bad"
Hello fellow chess lovers,
yesterday I saw a video with the title "Why are all World Championshio game reviews so bad".
It was discussed among other things that the streamers are in a battle to bring out the reviews first and therefore lack in quality.
This made me reflect my own approach: I'm following the world chess championship for the first time really in depth. In earlier years I just followed the results without really looking into the games. This time I do it differently and follow each game by solving 3-5 positions before watching the game recaps. I feel that this makes me more connected to the WCC and its players. It is great to train from their games.
I follow a free course on chessable. It is called "World Chess Championship 2024: Ding vs. Gukesh - MoveTrainer Tactics/Strategy course by IM Andras Toth". Andreas takes time to prepare the game lecture and its positions he gives us. Usually we get the new course chapters aka the games with positions for us to solve and the video recap a day later. Together with the reviews it sometimes takes 2,5h to go through one game only, depending on how much time I give myself to solve the different positions. It is very worth it and I learn quite a lot.
As I stream those game sessions at https://www.youtube.com/live/sJZ145AOp4o?si=RxXNNZmTwa3o2om_ & www.twitch.tv/chess_under_fire it is a special joy to have fellow ChessDojo members with me discussing the different lines. At the end of each session we watch IM Toth's video recap and are able to follow the games way better than without the training positions beforehand. Sadly the WCC is coming to an end now, already looking forward to the next one :-)
It might be true that streamers are just using the WCC for fast content, but I guess it just depends on what you make of it.
GO Ding!
