Hello! Welcome to another beginner's opening post! Today we will talk about the Queen's Gambit! For this opening you will play as white and start the game with 1. d4. Basic so far, and black will most likely respond with 1. d5. Now you do the unthinkable and give black a pawn by playing c4! if black takes, which is called the Queen's Gambit Accepted, you play e4, taking full control of the center and gaining tempo on black. And that's pretty much it! Look at the position after a few moves and you should see amazing dominance over the chess board. Your pieces are developed and it's very hard for black to defend the pawn you gave them so you will win it back instantly! This opening is great for beginners because they always fall for the trap! But, what if black defends the pawn instead of taking it? This is called the Queen's Gambit Declined, and it's probably a better option for black if they even have a chance to win. If they play that, develop your pieces and do not take the pawn that's hanging still in the opening because you will lose tempo. You want to stay ahead in tempo in the opening because you don't want to fall behind in developing your pieces. But overall, this opening is great for beginners and you will win many games by playing this opening. In my next post, I will talk about chess definitions like tempo, and brilliant moves, blunders, etc. Have fun playing this opening!
