Some gambits are tricky.

Some gambits are bad.

Some gambits are known.

Some are not.

Dear reader,

I created this blog with the intention of giving you a mini repertoire with black—something unexpected yet effective. The gambit I’m about to show you is not that secret, but I’ve noticed that even titled players struggle against it.

On move one, we play an uncommon opening. On move two, we do not play the usual move. From there, we simply take over the game.

Before you start, my recommendation is that you play this gambit for fun, not for ELO (this gambit is playable below 1200-1300 ELO). I stopped playing it because I started playing classical and my opponents would take more time to think, so I ended up in an uncomfortable position. However, I still use it against friends and sometimes in bullet. Let's start!

Firstly, I will show you the most common line and how easy it is to play.

Easy to remember? Let's move on and explore some more lines.

The two lines I am about to show you are quite cool. Enjoy (they were my favorite ones)

Now I will show you the concrete line that has a 60% win-rate, although the other variations have been precisely looked at to obtain the best results.

Those variations are great. However you need to know some key plans to avoid tricky deviations.

  • Place your dark-squared bishop on g7.
  • Castle short. The fianchetto will be powerful.
  • Focus on the kingside.

With some main ideas and practice, I am sure you will master this defense. What are your thoughts? I am also VERY interested, do you have a personal weapon against this gambit? Which one?
