Here I am going into the 7th round of the 9 round tournament with 2.5 points. Surprisingly I've been significantly paired up in every round except the second and I was getting pretty comfortable playing against 1700-2000 level players, which was one of the primary goals of playing in this tournament.

It turns out that in this game, I was behind after some botched trades in the middlegame but during the game felt I was slightly better. It shows that I have some work to do on my evaluation skills.

From 2012 to 2017 I pursued aggressive adult improvement (starting at age 43). I recorded my journey here as I gained over 400 rating points over two years, peaking at 1753 USCF in 2015. After taking a multi-year break to complete my doctorate, I returned to competitive chess in 2024.
