The eccentric visionary: Henry Bird
Henry Bird, a renowned chess author from England, was a remarkable figure in the chess world. While his primary occupation was accounting, he dedicated a significant portion of his life to chess, playing at a high level for an impressive 50 years. Bird's skill and dedication led him to achieve a peak ranking of number two in the world in 1876, according to Chessmetrics. His passion for the game was undeniable, with historical accounts suggesting he "lived for chess, and would play anybody anywhere, anytime, under any conditions."
