The 5 most common chess mistakes
Hello everyone! I am just a beginner in chess, so, naturally I want to learn. Today I would like you to join and learn with me: The seven most common chess mistakes; and how to avoid them.
1. Moving too quickly: one of the most common mistakes in chess is to not think your moves through. Always take your time to understand why you are moving, the possible consequences of the move, and also anticipate your opponent's moves. Being a beginner, I often do not think through my moves, and this sometimes costs me. Another thing I don't do much is anticipate my opponent's moves. This is very important because if you do not know where your opponent is going to move, you could be vulnerable to an attack.
2. Not Focusing too much on the Chess board: While controlling the center of the board is important in chess, it’s not the only thing that matters. Be sure to pay attention to all areas of the board, including the sides and back ranks because if you only focus on the center, your opponent could have the advantage, and capture a valuable piece, or even worse, checkmate you.
3. Ignoring your opponent’s threats: Don’t assume your opponent’s move is a mistake: It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that your opponent’s move is a blunder when it doesn’t make sense to you. However, it’s important to keep in mind that your opponent is also trying to win the game and their move may have a deeper strategic purpose. Instead of assuming their move is a mistake, take the time to analyze their possible plans and threats, while also planning your own strategy.
4. Failing to develop your pieces: Prioritize your minor pieces: Though developing all your pieces is important, it’s crucial to prioritize the development of your minor pieces like the knights and bishops. These pieces are more mobile than pawns and can control critical squares on the board. Focus on developing them to the central squares, where they have more options to move.
5. Overlooking tactics: Chess is a game of tactics, and failing to consider tactical opportunities can lead to missed chances or even losing the game. Always look for tactics that you can use such as forks, pins and skewers. Take your time to analyze the position and identify potential tactical opportunities. Rushing your moves can cause you to overlook strong tactics or fall into traps set by your opponent.
