Summary

The States Chess Cup (SCC) is going into its 4th season with a new organizer and a revamped ruleset. Going forward the SCC will run 3 seasons a year with a promotion/relegation system between divisions from season to season for state federation teams. There are also no longer restrictions on how many teams a State Chess Federation can send, nor is there a rating limit restriction anymore.

Format

The event can be split into a 7-week Round Robin event within divisions, followed by up to 3 weeks of post-season (Divisional Playoffs and Relegation matches). Matches are played weekly on Mondays at 7pm (EST or PST depending on division) in teams of 4 (unless teams agree to reschedule) and are played in Scheveningen Style (every player on one team plays every player on the other team) with 10m+2s time control.

Schedule

  • Regular Registration End: Tuesday, April 23, 2024
  • Pre-Season Match: Apr 29, 2024 (system test match for teams - no standings implications)
  • Late Registration End (increased EF by $25): Tuesday, April 30, 2024
  • Regular Season: May 6th through June 24th (break for Memorial Day)
  • Post Season: July 1st through July 22nd (break for 4th of July weekend)
  • Start of Registration for Season 5: Sunday, Jul 28, 2024

Summary

Going into it's 6th season for chess, the Corporate Charity Championships (CCC) is the flagship event of the CEA. The CCC is a tournament across various game titles (chess included since 2021) for corporate teams to play for charity and bragging rights. 100% of the team entry fee goes into a donation pool with winning teams deciding to which non-profits the funds go. Garmin, Epic Systems, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, General Motors, or Boeing are common participants in this prestigious event. Since its inception in 2018 alone, the CCC has raised more than $500,000 for charity.

Format

The event is split into a 5-week regular season and a 4-week post-season. During the regular season, teams of 4 play in a Swiss-System based tournament to play for their seeds in the post-season elimination brackets (Brackets of 8 with top 8 teams after regular season forming the top bracket, second best 8 forming the second bracket, ...). Matches are played Scheveningen Style (every player on one team plays every player on the other team) with 10m+2s time control. Games are played on Saturdays at 10am Pacific Time unless team captains agree to reschedule their match. Eligible to participate and form a team are any employees of a company at the point of registration.

Schedule

  • Regular Registration End: Tuesday, April 23, 2024
  • Pre-Season Match: Apr 27, 2024 (system test match for teams - no standings implications)
