So the queen's gambit fits mostly on White. It all starts with white's pawn to d4 taking hold of the center. Black's pawn makes it even by playing d5. Then the queen's gambit comes out when white strikes pawn to c4. Black's pawn has two choices, to ignore the pawn and complete its development or capture the pawn and lose the center. There is a queen's gambit accepted version and a queen's gambit declined version. Let's take a look at the bottom.

On top, this variation is called the queen's gambit accepted which allows White to gain more space.
On top, the two game boards show something called the queen's gambit declined variation which allows black to conqueror more space than taking the pawn on c4.
Thank you for reading!!!
