Admin!
What is it like to be an admin?
In this blog I have interviewed @hest1805 about what his adminship is like!
How long have you been admin?
6 months
Do you do a lot of admin work each day? If so what kind of work do you do?
I spend several hours doing 4pc stuff every day, including many different things. I'm not sure what should be defined as work or not, in general this is all voluntarily and I do what I think I'm good at and that I find interesting. I keep an eye on what's going on in general, which formats are popular, and different kind of stats. I discuss rules and changes with the other admins, help explaining rules to people, and do my own experiments to try to find ways to improve the game. Recently I was given the access to all the code for the 4pc app, so I'm a volunteer developer trying to help @spacebar with the task of improving the server. I also help the CGA team with their duties regarding custom games and arenas, and try to popularize the game by playing and inspiring other people to play.
As the tournament director, how do you decide which game mode becomes an arena and how long the time control will be?
As the tournament/arenas are still quite a new feature, it's so far been a lot of experimenting to find out what kind of arenas people like. Sometimes I make arena formats that I myself find interesting, but together the CGA team are now trying to make a more strict system where admins and CGA's vote for making and removing arenas. We're trying to set up a systematic and understandable arena schedule while measuring each arena's popularity to see what works, there are some features that are missing like for example, prizes that I hope will be added soon.
Is it true you get a lifetime membership?
Yes I have received a lifetime membership.
If you could make one change to 4-Player Chess, what would it be?
Tough question, there are many things. Number one is that I would make capture the king standard.
What is your favorite part about being an admin?
That I can have a more active role in shaping and improving 4-Player Chess.
Thank you for letting me interview you, and giving me great information!
