Battle Of Chess (Guide to win) #1
Battle Of Chess
#1 The First Move
On the battlefield you want to push your warriors (aka Pawns) toward the center. Usually on the first move on the 64 squares should be something like pushing your king's pawn or queen's pawn in the center. Developing a pawn and allowing other pieces to come into the battle.
#2 The Opening
The Opening is a explored before theory in which there are certain moves that have usually been played at some significant event. In the opening phase preferably you want to develop your pawns in the center then defend those pawns with your knights developed and even prepare to castle. A great opening is the Ruy Lopez Opening it develops a pawn, a knight and a bishop and prepares to castle short-side for white. There are lots of helpful guides on openings. I would recommend studying common lines in openings and opening theory as-well as principles.
#3 The Middle Game
The Middle game is debatably the most important phase of the game. Pieces are developed, traded and positions change drastically. The middle game is like a difficult and tedious battle where positions are gradually or drastically improved or worsened. In the middle game there are trillions of positions possible. But the best way to find the best moves are to do a process of elimination. If you struggle with your current games I suggest trying a longer time control to go through the process of elimination, identify patterns and to get instinct on what your opponent will play.
The Questions you have to ask yourself to decide the best move:
1. Do I have a checks/forced moves?
2. Are there any forks, pins or discovered attacks in this given position?
3. Are there any ways to win material and get a better position?
Once you have asked yourself these questions you will make less mistakes and you will win more games.
#4 The Endgame
The Endgame is the most difficult because you are entering very difficult positions with lots of possibilities. The Middle game and Endgame are similar. Usually throughout a chess game there is a player with a more aggresive playing style and one is usually defensive. Neither is good on its own so you need to be balanced. The Queens and the rooks are meant to be used last. So developing a rook on open chess board isn't a good idea. In the endgame you will be thinking much harder and will have to be very strategical.
#5 After the Battle
After your chess game you should review it no matter what the result was. You cannot improve unless you practice and analyize patterns in past games. I leave the rest up to you. You can be as good of a warrior you want but you have to be dedicated.
