My Next OTB Tournament (and AMA answers)
Hi everyone!
First, here is my most recent AMA (ask me anything) video. I had a second video prepared for a specific question about how to improve at OTB, but I wish I had structured it better, so I'm probably going to rerecord it hopefully this weekend.
As mentioned in the video, my next tournament is tomorrow (Saturday, October 2nd). It's the Arlington Chess Club Open #58. Looking at the preregistration list, I am in the top half in my section by rating (as of now), but there's good competition waiting for battle! ![]()
Honestly, I'm slightly nervous, but I'm also pretty chill. I'm only nervous because it'll be my first OTB tournament in a month and a half (which a year ago, would have been nothing, but it felt like I played a bunch this summer), and I may not perform well. Although, I'm also feeling relaxed, in that it's been a while since I've played in a tournament, and I'm not thinking as much about my rating as I have in the past.
It also appears to be a good sign that I eclipsed 2000 rapid and 2100 blitz. That definitely gives me some confidence, but I think there's little correlation with how I do online vs OTB. They're two different concepts.
Anyway, I talked about this with my coach, and he seems to agree that I'm ready to play, and whether I'm "rusty" or not, I may perform well, or poorly.
That's about it. Sorry, it's sort of an uneventful post, but I'll see you with a tournament update! I like to go over the games with my coach before posting my analysis, so lookout for a post maybe Thursday or Friday! ![]()
