The last time I featured an animal on the cover pic, it got a lot of clicks and comments... will this strategy work again?!

Pressuring A 2100 -- The Ultimate Practice Game

Hello, everyone! Sorry I haven't continued my "Getting Better At Chess" series ... because no one has come up with a title!!!  Just joking, that's not the reason, I will come up with a good series title if I need to. This will be a shorter post, so enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been vocal in the past about how I hope to return to OTB chess tournaments in 2021 depending on how safe the situation is. In preparation, I've been playing 30-minute games on Chess.com. I try to get 30-minute games with increment, but they're so rare! And even when I sought a 30|0 game, for some reason, no one was accepting... I started another task on my computer, and had to abandon it, as I got the alert that my game had started, lo and behold, a 2179 from Pakistan was waiting to be my next victim. This was an exciting and rare opportunity to play someone this high rated in an online chess game, non-tournament, from the comfort of my own home. Enjoy reviewing this game, and the notes!

THE OPENING

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here was the opening, with some notes!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE MIDDLEGAME

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The middlegame was pretty complicated. It's PG-13 in fact  Haha, just joking! I do make unnatural moves -- spoiler, I did not castle until move 21! So if you're lower-rated, I would take all of my moves with a grain of salt. For others, I will note that I probably won't suggest a lot of alternatives from either side. I felt like this was just a good game throughout, I made some interesting decisions, and it ultimately got decided by a mistake in the end. As always, enjoy!

THE CLIMAX

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope you enjoyed the game as much as I enjoyed playing it!  I thought I played pretty well, closing the position, restricting my opponent's counterplay, and putting the pressure on White (at some point, I get -2.63). However, he who makes the last mistake loses (a saying I made up lol), and that was indeed me.

I will be back in a couple of days, to share with you some destined-to-be-fails for the 2021 New Year. Take care in the meantime, and I will see you soon!
