Hello everyone! This is my first blog post featuring a chess concept. There are a number of ways to win a game of chess, one of them being a checkmate. It's probably the most satisfying way of winning the game. There are different types of checkmates too. Some of them are more satisfying than others such as the smothered mate. Today, I'll be showing some examples of the hook mate.

A hook mate occurs when the king is cornered by a rook and a knight usually aided by a pawn. Here is an example of a hook mate:-

Try finding the checkmate in one! This is a fine hook mate where the rook, knight, and pawn work together like a hook to trap the king. Here's a famous game featuring the hook mate played between two masters in the late nineteenth century:-
