Every great grandmaster has a fingerprint. Tal sacrifices pieces like he's giving gifts. Petrosian retreats to suffocate you. Fischer just finds moves nobody else sees.
The question is: can YOU recognize them?
I created "Guess the Grandmaster" — a free chess quiz game where you study famous positions and moves, then pick which grandmaster was behind them.

How to play

  • You're shown positions and moves from real historical games
  • You pick the correct grandmaster from multiple choices
  • The quiz includes 20 grandmasters — world champions and top players
  • No login required, runs entirely in your browser

I also recorded a walkthrough video showing how the quiz works — you can watch the full version here:

Why I made this

As a chess coach, I see a lot of players who know tactics but don't understand style. Being able to recognize positional thinking, attacking patterns, and decision-making of legends is a huge part of chess education — and this quiz makes that process fun.
Try it and let me know in the comments: which grandmaster was hardest to identify? 🤔
