Chess Tournaments and Players

Chess fascinates us for a number of reasons.

Competition between two players rivets our attention. Competitions on a broader scale—as in tournaments—draw our attention as a variety of players set themselves to contend with each other.

Players in tournaments are also interesting when we know something about them and see them expend their energies in their intense games with others.

In the history of chess, great tournaments and great players fascinate us. We learn of the contexts and contests of the tournaments. We see chess players about whom we know and who have established their reputations compete in games which can amaze—and inspire us!
