Birdcage or Blindside

As you can read in my review of the last quarter, I’ve done pretty okay. In my Daily games my rating slowly increased until I met this guy.

It’s been a while since I lost in such an embarrassing fashion as I did in this game, because I was so involved in my own plan that I completely missed my opponent's plans. I felt like the characters in Bird Cage, trying to navigate without being able to see what’s right in front of me. But, to be honest, it’s not a good comparison. Sandra Bullock was unable to see because of a blindfold in front of her eyes. I, on the other hand, walked into this one with my eyes fully open.

When I received a notification on my phone that I lost a game due to checkmate, I was confused. I didn't have many games open at the time and I didn’t recall being on the defense in any of them. I certainly didn’t expect this game to be the one I would lose.

The lesson is to be on the lookout for threats ALWAYS.  On the plus side, games like this are an exception for me.

Update!!

My opponent was kind enough to provide his comments as well.

Now the article is finished. Or Finnished. Thanks Kalle.
