My Journey-900 to 1700 in 6 months
I had to write this blog for my ego ![]()
Yesterday I accomplished my lifetime goal in chess- to become a 1700. In 6 months. I'm honestly still in shock, about half a year ago I was a 900 in an obscure restaurant playing some rated chess, and now I'm the 23rd best chess player in South Carolina. What happened?
If you want a really good tactics book I would recommend Learning Chess steps 1-4 published by Van Der Wijgerden, and if you want some casual chess book reading get Fischers 60 memorable games.
In this blog I'm going to put some of my OTB games from the past 6 months. These will range from blunder filled games to some solid wins against experts. Enjoy!
The earliest game I remember. After this game someone told me what a master was, and for some reason I was happy with that game. In few more chess clubs with games like that, I took a break from chess and did other things. Then I came back to the chess scene, and joined a little club for kids at a restaurant.
I started improving after my long absence from chess, and move up from the kiddy chess club to the adult one. My first few chess clubs went amazing, I got a coach, and I had my first draw against an 1800!
Now we start getting in the big leagues. I had been studying for hours and hours a day to improve, and my results and rating were skyrocketing. I also was helped out by some reeeeaaaally lucky wins like this one:
A self mate. I had a few more scares, some botched wins, some stupid wins like that one, but I somehow climbed to 1600. Here is me beating a 1700 friend of mine.
I won a few small tournaments, One in Charlotte NC. I had a few games against @jasonhaller that I was proud of, and I just generally enjoyed chess more and more. Here is the last game I have, me finally beating that b4 player, who is actually a really nice guy.
Anyway, that's about it. I know it's not as good as manudavid, but it's my achievment. 6 months ago I was 912, and now I'm a proud 1728. Thanks to all my opponents at my chess club, and especially my amazing coach who built me up from the ground. Thank you guys for taking some time out of your day to read my blog. Happy chess!
