Have you ever gotten the feeling of being totally outplayed by your opponent and wonder where you made a mistake?

This usually happens when two players from different classes encounter each other and the stronger one utilizes more advanced techniques than their opponent is accustomed to. Instead of one side making an obvious blunder, the position gets worse and worse for the weaker player with every move. I like to call this a “book game” since these types of games could basically be included in any chess book. However, sometimes the tables may turn, and a weaker player by rating (which may sometimes be an inaccurate measure of their ability) will surprise and outplay their higher-rated opponent! This brings us to this Game of the Week...

Game of the Week is: Svane, Frederik vs. Bluebaum, Matthias

Svane is a young German player that I must say completely outplayed his opponent after Bluebaum made just two insignificant errors. I am astonished by this game and bet that this masterpiece will make the cut in many positional chess books in the future!
