Another PNWCC event and a lot of fun games! G45 tomorrow

Last weekend saw another online classical event of PNWCC concluded. With 24 GMs, 3 WGM and 4 IMs, and many more titled players in lowers sections, it is a treat to play an event like this when you know that the much-awaited over the board chess is not in the horizon anytime soon.

The event saw a lot of surprises, dramatic moments and interesting opening ideas, however, it was one person’s dream event:  Ryo Chen is an NM and an enthusiastic chess player. He is a player who is not only driven by results but also by the beauty of the game. I have had Ryo in a few of my group lessons and I was glad to see someone this eager to participate in every conversation.

Ryo's tournament of his life, so far!

In this event, Ryo was simply unstoppable. After receiving a full point in the first round when his GM opponent forfeited, he went on to beat GMs Haik Martirosyan and Evgeny Postny and drew with the eventual winner Nodirbek Abdusattarov as well as GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan. With 4/5 he was on the run for a tie for the first, only then conceding the last point to his experienced opponent, GM Aleks Lenderman. The aforementioned score should come as a great boost to one’s self-confidence and I hope the Texas-based young man achieve higher titles in chess in a near future.

While in situations like this it is customary to show-case the games the young talent won over his experienced opponents. However, I chose Ryo’s draw against Abdusattarov because of its rich opening content and the fact that less experienced player managed to completely outplay his prodigy opponent

Now it is a good time to talk about the sole winner, GM Abdusattarov from Uzbekistan. While him winning the event is merely a surprised as he was as capable ( If not way more) than other renowned GMs in the event to win this event. However, one thing that stands out in Abdusattarov performance is his perseverance, resourcefulness and his focus during the entire event.

Perseverance and tenacity, works well for Abdusattarov!

Let us have a look at two of his games : His critical win against GM Vugar Rasulov in a total slug-fest, and his last round draw againt the tournament’s top seed GM Vladimir Fedoseev.

If there is one who should be totally appalled by the outcome of this tournament is Fedoseev. For the most part, Fedoseev’s loss against GM Bernadisky, where the Russian started like the 8th world champion, Mikhail Tal but did not keep playing in the same fashion!

While GM vs GM is always tough and close, it is not an easy task to win against lower-rated player even in complete winning endgames.

Here , I have an example for you where FM Anthony He miraculously survives a two-pawns down endgame against GM Manuel Petorsyan.

One more time PNWCC had a good event concluded without any scandal or cheating accusation, while all the games in the event have been certified by chess.com anti-cheating system.

Now, what is next? Do not worry because PNWCC has good news for you:

The Jackpot blitz event is back , from February 21st  and this time with it will be 12 rounds of 3+2 and if you win all your 12 games, you hit the Jackpot of $2,000!. Place based prizes are also offered, and the amounts are based on the number of registered players (paid or free entry). For the first place, it’s $2.5 per player, which means $500 if 200 players registered. The link to the tournament is here .

As for the classical events go, the same event as the one covered in this report would take place in February and March. The link to events can be found here

Also, PNWCC is having players and parents drive events they like! The great examples are the G45  Open this weekend and the G75 Expert+ training tournaments on the 30th.

The more you guys play the more interesting materials I have to study and share with you!

Stay safe!
