Black to move:

.

White has a potentially vulnerable back rank but the Rook must be eliminated or lured away.

The e Knight is blocking Black's Rook.

The Black Queen has access to f1 but that's doubly guarded.

Black is down a piece.

White's Queen is undefended.

1. ... Nh3+  2. gxh3 Qg6+  3. Kh1/f1 Ng3+  4. h/fxg3 Qxc2 and Black will win at least one of the 4 pieces, which means he's up a Queen and a pawn for 2 minor pieces.

What if White declines the sac?

1. ... Nh3+  2. Kh1 Nexf2+  3. Qxf2 Nxf2+.

.

What else is there?

The only other Knight check is 1. ... Ne2+ but that loses the Knight for no apparent compensation.

I don't see a way to attack the back rank with the White Rook there and no way to lure/deflect it.

The immediate 1. ... Qg6 gives time for White to defend with 2. g3:  now 2. ... Nh3 can be met with 3. Kg2 and the e Knight cannot check the King and so the discovered attack doesn't exist.

Yup, that was right:

.

The key was recognizing that there was no checkmate due the defended back rank but that the White Queen was undefended.

Another potential stumbling block is that the Queen move is a LQM [Lateral Queen Move], which can be tough to find.  Furthermore, the LQM only makes sense if preceded by the Knight sac offer because the Queen move comes with check.  No matter where the King goes [h1 or f1], 3. ... Ng3 will be check, also discovering the attack on the Queen, giving White no time to defend the Queen, which Black happily captures.

Note that White can decline the sac:  2. Kh1 Nexf2+  3. Qxf2 Nxf2+, which wins the Queen for only one piece, which is even better for the Solver.  We must capture on move 2 with the e Knight so that the h Knight guards g1 which forces White to give up his Queen.
