How To Use The Engine To Analyze Any Position

You can invoke the engine to analyze the Daily Puzzle.  But I recently learned that I can also enter any arbitrary position. Note: I can't yet get it to work on a phone.

Step 1:  invoke the engine [magnifying glass icon]

This is if you want  to start from an already-established position.  If you want to start from the initial position, go to

https://www.chess.com/analysis

Step 2:  Click "Set Up Position"

Step 3:  Click "Set Up Position"

Step 4:  create the position you want

You can remove pieces from the board by dragging them off to the right.

You can add pieces to the board by selecting them from the palette on the right and dragging them to the board.

You can select whose move it is.

You can orient the board

and, I think, whether either can castle [I haven't tested that].

When you're done, click the green "Load" button and Stockfish will go to work analyzing the position.  And when you move, the evaluation will change, just like with the Daily puzzle.

You can also do this from the starting position:  hover over the "Learn" menu item on the left and choose "Analysis".  Then modify the position to whatever you want.
