MY FIRST TAFCA MATCH FOR KIRKCALDY CHESS CLUB

Last Wednesday I had an opportunity to play for Kirkcaldy A against Dundee A thanks to a low turnout of high graded players. I had mentioned I would be willing to step up in any home matches if required to do so. I wanted to try out against a high graded player, and on this evening I got my wish. My opponent on board four was Jim Anderson (1625), against my official grading of 660! My aim was to concentrate and not disgrace myself. As the game progressed I felt more confident, I was becoming aware of a few raised eyebrows at how I was managing to hold my own and ask some questions of my own. Sadly I did lose the game, much to my opponents relief, but I had not disgraced myself. Indeed it was strange to be congratulated on playing well and having lost, hopefully I will get a chance to redeem myself sometime soon.
