Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog! Today I have for you: 3 reasons to play gambits! After all... how many people here have asked themselves the question: Why do people play gambits? What's the point of sacrificing material just for some "interesting position"? Well hopefully this blog will help answer that question as well as give you some insight into the merits of playing gambits.

1. To Avoid Theory

How many times have you seen/played a game where 20+ moves were blitzed out just because they were theory? Have you ever finished a game in 5 minutes because both sides just played the best moves in the position? You know... the ones that were prepared with an engine at home???

Yeah. With gambits, there's less theory and a smaller chance that your opponent will know how to handle your crazy opening correctly. If you're looking to spice things up, or avoid playing a theoretical line against a well-prepared opponent, play a gambit!

2. To Get Quick Wins

Yes...it's true! Gambits are a great way to get quick wins. I'm not saying that you should do this all the time, because it's still more important to learn and understand chess as a whole! However, let's say you're 2198 USCF and you only need 2 more points to get your National Master Title. Well... maybe playing something a bit unorthodox would help.

3. They're fun!

How many times have you reached the most boring and symmetrical position the world has ever seen? In order to avoid a position like this...

you could have try playing the FRENCH WING GAMBIT!!!!!
