Puzzle Rush Tips and Tricks: Optimize Your Performance!

Hello everyone! Today I was working on some puzzle rush, and I found some patterns in the way I solved the puzzles, and wanted to create a blog post solely focusing on how to improve at Puzzle Rush, besides getting better at tactics (duh). These are mostly general tips on how to optimize your performance. If you want to truly get better at tactics, I recommend doing puzzles or reading some tactics books. However, if you're eager to beat your friend's score but you just don't know how, here are some tips and tricks to improve at PUZZLE RUSH!

1. Breeze Through the Beginning

In Puzzle Rush, the tactics start off easy and get progressively harder as you solve more puzzles. It is of the utmost importance to not spend time solving the beginning problems, as they are very elementary and spending time on them is essentially a complete waste. If you see a tactical motif or an idea, GO FOR IT. Don't double check, don't re-calculate, don't think again. You CANNOT SPEND TIME ON THE BEGINNING SECTION (first 10-20 problems). Of course, if you're in a real game, please do rethink and calculate. However, in Puzzle Rush, our goal is to solve as many problems as possible, so THINK FAST!

2. Always Have the Next Move Handy

Basically all I'm trying to say is in a tactical combination, once you've made a move, start dragging the next piece to its destination. Here's an example:

Clearly, white's pawn is going to promote now matter what black's king does. So you know that he's going to push his pawn. Therefore, once you play Ke2 (a winning move), drag the king and hover it over the f2 square. In case the problem's next move is h3, Kf2 can be played much quicker than if you waited until you say h3 to drag your king over.

3. Accuracy isn't That Important

Of course, in Puzzle Rush you can only get 3 problems wrong. My point here is that if you've got 30 seconds left, and have only gotten 1 problem wrong, you're best way to end is to solve as quickly as possible and get 2 wrong, not to think for eternity on one problem just because if you get it wrong, that'll be your 3rd error and the game will end. It's much better to take that risk while you still have time, and hopefully you get a shot at solving another problem. It's all about probability and chances!

That's all I've got for you today, I hope you enjoyed this blog post! Make sure to comment down below if these tips and tricks helped you improve your score!
