Can I Beat A Cheater?
So Close…
Like every honest chess player, I despise cheaters - and it would give me no greater pleasure than taking advantage of the fact that they intentionally make errors to mask their use of engines to absolutely obliterate them. In one time control, bullet, I might even be able to… unfortunately, today wasn’t that day. After spending a few seconds in the bullet pool, I was paired against an untitled player in the mid-2600 range. I think I’m not alone when I say that I don’t really take bullet seriously, and I wasn’t really paying attention to the game. Quickly, though, I found myself up a piece and in what I assumed must be a better position; engine analysis would later show that White was actually for choice, much to my shock and horror. Regardless, I would blunder in time trouble and go on to lose the game, not suspecting anything. Mindlessly clicking rematch, I braced myself for the beginning of a bullet tilt; squandering that kind of winning position isn’t conducive to good chess, but I wasn’t ready to end my session below 2600. Game 2 (featured) was somewhat similar, although this time my opponent was down a piece very cleanly (e5 and exf6). Despite playing well at first, I managed to get my knight trapped on b7 and was forced into a rook and rook vs rook and bishop endgame down a number of pawns, in which I managed to blunder a rook and a king in only a few moves.
Surely, if you’re past a certain rating and in good form, there’s a nonzero chance that you can beat a cheater. If you have, please post the game below!
