Your king is your most important piece. If it gets check mated, you lose - no matter how strong your position might be. Therefor, the general rule is to keep it safe, hide it, put it behind a wall of pawns, and watch over it as it was your own kid.
However, there are some exceptions. In today's game we will examine how it can be crucial to treat your king like one of the boys, and bring him to the battlefield.
This game illustrates the importance of bringing your king into play when the time is right. It also reminds us that the thumb rules of chess often should be ignored.
