Ah Rickrolling. The greatest meme ever arguably. Today we are going to dive into a history lesson. But first I have a little warmup. Say the opposite to these words. Always, staying, from, take, me, down. Pretty cool right? So now that you are warmed up lets dive into it!

ORIGIN

The Rickroll originated from this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ . It was from Rick Astley's debut album Whenever You Need Somebody in 1987. It was super popular and a number 1 hit in many different outlets such as the Billboard Hot 100. This is the first song with a video of Rick dancing and singing. On July 28th 2021 the song got 1 billion views on YouTube.

INCREASED POPULARITY

The meme Rickroll came about in March 2007 when GTA IV was released and became super popular. So a brilliant dude decided to claim he found the game trailer but linked Rick's song instead. That started the phenomenon. Then on April 1st 2007 it was used a ton really lighting a fire that has expanded to impact us all in such meaningful ways.

OPPRESION TO THE RICKROLL COMMUNITY

A video made with a different link then the normal song was posted on YouTube. YouTube has tried multiple times to suppress it only to meet a ton of resistance. The have taken the video down not once, not twice but three times! Talk about rude! You can still find it here and we can fight the party poopers trying to fight against the greatest thing this world has ever seen.

EXPANSION

So as it expanded YouTubers began to do more and more content based around it. One of my favorites theTekkitRealm has some great content surrounding it. He founded a country.

Yeah pretty legendary. The Rickroll has come a long way. Happy April Fools everyone and Happy Easter as well! Hope you guys found this funny. Comment below the best Rickroll you have been pranked by! Also type #BringBackTheGoatee if you want me to keep my goatee. If enough people say it I won't shave it off.
