Patzer to Grandmaster (Yeah right) Return
It has been over a year and a half since I last played a competitive chess game. When last we spoke, I had just reached 1425, and by my calculations I figured I was somewhere around the 95% percentile on Chess.com. And to get there I had been putting in a lot of hours studying chess books, puzzles, opening theory, going over GM's games, some blindfold. You know just about everything I could think of, and again when I hit 1425, I just looked at myself in the mirror and thought you know 95% is pretty good. And I put it away and played other competitive games like, you know like, SIMS 4.
Well, really what I did, was concentrate on my writing. I have now have four books out on Amazon, which I don't expect you to... (Hey, hey, I'm talking here. You can check it out later.) But within the last couple weeks I felt the itch return, or to paraphrase an old classic movie, "I've got the need, I've got the need for chess." You're right. You're so right. It doesn't have the same cache as when Maverick calls out, I have the need for speed.
But anyway before I took on my first game I did do some chess puzzles. At one point I set a new record with 41 correct in a row. And I played the bots.
And then after losing to a 1700 bot five times in a row, I thought, you know I am ready to accept a loss, so I hit play, and I got smoothbunzzz. He is rated 1325. It was 60 minute game. I prefer longer games.
So, I'm back, and we will see where I go. It's just I don't care quite as much. So...
Well thanks for reading. And if you do want to check out my books on Amazon, please do so now. Look under Marvin Brauer.
