Another version of the DHLC Slow Chess League games database has been published. It includes games from events played up to 19 January 2014. As you will see at the end of this post, there are some extra statistics this month. Lets start with the basic statistics from the games database.

Number of DHLC members:  3906 (up from 3868)

Number of games: 2679 (up from 2270)

Number of players: 693 (up from 613)

Percentage of DHLC members playing: 17.74%

 Number of events: 153

Most active players (at least 25 games)

I have decided to drop the cutoff of 25 games for this list and simply grab the first two pages from Chessbase. There are now enough Slow Chess League players that a couple of pages is realistic.

Again there are new faces in there, and in the Slow Chess League overall.

I still haven't worked out an easy way to give you a list of the "winningest" players, those who have won the most games, and perhaps a list of our drawing masters but I expect that will appear in the coming months.

Let's have some more pictures now. First, here is the overall win-loss record.

Here is a breakdown of the game lengths (this is by number of moves, not by time):

Want to know which openings are the most popular? Then this next section is for you. You will need to have access to the ECO opening codes to understand the next graphs. There are many places on the internet where they can be found but the Wikipedia Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings page is as good a place to start as any. I have included a picture for each of the A - E major ECO codes.

I did say that there would be a little more than usual this month. One of our members, ipcress12, who is quite skilled in the wonders of the Python programming language has put those skills to use on our behalf.

Note that this section is new and is therefore somewhat experimental. Don't be surprised if there are some small differences between this section and the usual statistics above.

And now a teaser of some more detailed analysis of the openings you all like to use. There is a LOT more of this so I have just included a sample. I'd like some feedback on whether you want to see the complete openings analysis. If so, I'll work out a way of publishing it if there is too much to fit into an already large blog post.
