My Best Tournament Ever

Hello everyone, welcome back to another blog. I haven't written for a while because I was extremely busy due to exams and also I got eliminated in the Blogchamps frustrated. However, in the meantime, I have played quite some tournaments. happy

Today, I am writing about an OTB tournament played about 2 months ago, from 14 to 15th October. It was played in Rangpur district which had some quite beautiful places for sure!

It was a 6 rounds tournament with 3 rounds on each day. The time control was 1 hour for both sides with 30 second increments. I was 35th rated player out of 83 with a starting rating of 1672.

Day One

Round 1

I had already reached the district last night. So I started the first round fresh. I was paired against a non rated player. (He is a pretty strong player.)

I won the game pretty convincingly. So a pretty good start.

Round 2

In the second round, I was paired with a 1869 rated player. Let's see if I could pull an upset.happy

I had a winning position for most of the matches. But rook endgames are always tricky. Anyway, I am happy with a draw against a 200 point higher opponent.

Round 3

In the third round, I am against a 1922 rated opponent. I do not have much experience playing against 1900+ opponents. Even a draw would be an upset!

A pretty disappointing defeat. After a huge opening success, followed by a big attack and a pawn win, I just could believe how I blundered the entire game by just one simple move

Day 2

Round 4

After that defeat, I had a pretty good sleep. So, I was fresh again and in the 4th round, I was paired against 1735 rated player. I had played against him in the past and I knew I could defeat him.

A pretty convincing victory. I was pretty happy to start the day with a victory.

Round 5

Heading into round 5 with a 2.5/4 score, I was paired against 1830. Now, we came to Rangpur together in the train. So, I kind of knew him. Let's see if I can continue my form.

Never underestimate your opponent. My opponent could make a draw, but he wanted to win so hard that out of frustration, he blundered. I was so happy to win this match!

Drama and more drama!:
We were supposed to get the lunch after round 5. It was already way over lunch time and we were still not getting our lunch. All the participants got furious and started protesting. They demanded they would not start the round until lunch arrived.
After more than 2 hour protest and drama, finally everyone clamed down. Round 6 started around 5 pm. (we still didn't get our lunch at the start of the round 6. We got the lunch middle of the round 6).
Round 6:
If I won this round, I had pretty good chance of winning a regular prize. Even if I lost, I would still won the U-15 prize. But I was there to increase my rating. I was against a pretty strong 1797 rated opponent. But I am in form too. Let's see what happens.

Wow, a great 4.5/6 result. It was a nice attacking game and I won pretty convincingly again! I became 10th and won some cash. But more importantly, I gained 81.2 ratings!! My rating became 1753!!

In the next day, I visited some nice places and came back home the next day. Overall, it was a pretty nice experience. Hopefully, I will reach 2000 rating next year. And thanks for reading.
