Hello everyone and welcome back to another blog. Today, I am starting new blog series named, "Top 5 ____". Details are at the end of the blog.

Introduction:

Today's blog is all about "Gambits". But what is a "Chess Gambit"?

A gambit is a chess opening where the player sacrifices materials to gain advantages, usually in the form of superior piece activity and center control. It is a fun, yet risky way to open the game.

There are hundreds and thousands of gambits. To choose the top 5 chess gambits, I sorted the gambits based on three criteria:

1. Win rate according to Lichess database
2. Objective Evaluation

3. Attacking chances created by the gambits(personal opinion)

5. Scotch Gambit:
With a win rate of 55%, The Scotch Gambit can be a very dangerous weapon for every chess player. White can play in a variety of ways and in every single variation, there are a lot of venoms. The good news is it is objectively almost very sound too!

Suggested Resource:

4. Queen’s Gambit Accepted:
The Queen’s Gambit is one of the most popular openings in chess—white attempts to sacrifice the c pawn in order to gain a massive center and initiative. If black accepts the gambit, they may find themselves in big trouble indicated by its win rate of 56%.

Helpful Resource:

3. Vienna Gambit:
In the Vienna Gambit, white offers the f-file pawn in order to establish a big center. Just like the Queen’s Gambit, it is actually not good for black to accept the gambit. Black will need to know exactly what to do to not lose too quickly. It has a win rate of 57%

Helpful Resource:

2. Danish Gambit:
The Danish Gambit is an easy extremely fun attacking opening where white sacrifices two pawns for a huge initiative. If black is not extremely accurate, they will find themselves in trouble very soon. It has a massive win rate of 58%.

Helpful Resource:

1. Fried Liver Attack:
With a massive win rate of 69% and an objective evaluation of 0.8, the Fried Liver Attack is arguably the best chess gambit. White sacrifices an entire knight to bring black’s king into the center and launches a devastating attack.

Conclusion:

I made this list based on my own criteria and research. But there are thousands of more chess gambits. They all are fun and great way to play chess. If you have never tried a gambit, I encourage you to choose a gambit from this list and search on youtube, learn the theory, and then play some chess.

A nice summary graph:

What is next?:

I have been pretty busy recently. So, from now on, I have decided to follow a schedule. Every month I will publish one blog on the "Road to 2000" series and one blog on the "Top 5 ___" series.

Top 5 ____ is basically blog series where I will select the top 5 gambits, opening for white, black, etc.

And as always, thanks for reading.
