Hello Chess.com comunity,

Because yesterday i talked about a tournament i played, today i will explain how i prepare for my tournaments. I think preparing for tournaments is very important to perform well because its when you have to memorize your openings and practice the most to be sharp that day so this post is going to help you to make great performance.

This is what i do to prepare for tournaments.

So here are some tips to practice your chess skills:

  • Solve puzzles every day and time yourself to know how much time you need to calculate positions
  • Before hitting game review analize the game yourself to see some errors yourself
  • Don't try to do lots of puzzles do less but better, quallity over quantity
  • Wathch lessons 2 or 3 times to memorize everithing well

Tips for learning openings

  • Focus on 1 or 2 openings that you know well
  • Study varius lines to bend the game depending on the oponent and his playng style
  • Watch 3 or 4 times a video of the opening you choose
  • choose the opening that suits your playng style attaking defending, controlling, the game, etc

Tips for while you're studdyng

  • If you're having a good streak do not get overconfident or you could loose much more games
  • Every 30 minutes of trainig rest from 5 to 10 minutes, eat something or simply ly down and rest
  • Don't autopressure yourself its ok if you loose lots of games its part of the training to get better
  • Don't only play and studdy chess, also talk to your friends and family, they will suport you and help you to improove

Tips for the tournament day

  • Bring a chess boart to analize your games and check for mistakes or if the games, and if you have a long time till the next game eat something (not sugar) and play chess.com on your phone to mantain the chess mentality
  • Don't overstress yourself specially if its your first tournament, its ok if you don't win the chances will come
  • Only play openings you know by heart don't risk it or you will probably lead to a point were you don't know what to do
  • Observe the best players of the tournament, do they talk, do they remain quiet, etc

Basicly this is how i prepare for tournaments and what i do when i'm there, this has helped me to overcom some difficultys over the board and not over the board.

This had to come out yesterday at night (spain) but ffinally it comed out today.

So i hope this helps you to perform well in tournaments and comment anything you would want me to write about and don't forget to follow me to know when i publish stuff like this.

So goodbye!!
