What is Scholar's Mate?
Note: This 4-move checkmate is useful for beginners but there are also ways to defend it violently
Scholar's mate is one of the quickest checkmates in chess; it attacks the weak f7 square that is only defended by the king.
You start the game with the simple King's pawn opening. White will also try to take over the centre with... e5 or another opening.
Now, white plays... Bc4. Black may move a piece, thinking it is a harmless move.
White then plays... Qh5, attacking the f7 pawn. Black will move and then white will play... Qxf7# (checkmate).
Ways to prevent Scholar's Mate:
After Qh5, black can play... g6, defending and attacking the queen.
