Hello everyone and if you havent read my last blog, you should because it shows the mindset I was in at my last tournament: https://www.chess.com/blog/FourCubedLegend/my-worst-tournament-ever

But now, I was ready. Having trained chess insanely online after that last tournament, hitting a peak rating of 2274 online and significantly increasing my knowledge and strength, I was ready to play.

However... I would have to play in the open section. 53 players, I was the 50th seed... lets see how it went.

Round 1: Chaos and tactics

Now when I saw that I was facing a 1982 USCF player I was definitely nervous, but I knew he was a volatile and strong player who could make mistakes.

ggs, fun opponent who is a regular at these tournaments. We sorta just exploded the board and tried to see who would come out on top. 1/1.

Round 2: 2600 online...

All I knew about him was he was really freaking good and he played e4 sooooo im freeballing... great.

Yeah while a bit dissapointing at how fast it was, he simply was far stronger than me and I made a dumb move, which is ok, im playing up in the open section anyways. 1/2.

Round 3: Crushing a 1950

I dont have too much to say besides I probably should study more grunfeld ideas because that was a very fun game and I want to play against it more lol. ggs 2/3
Round 4: Beating a 2200???

Well I certainly came close to beating him lol, I was pressuring him the entire game. But I suppose thats what makes a player of that strength, you cant slip up against them even once because they are just that good. I have full confidence going into the final round but I am very mentally fatigued at this point. ggs, 2/4
Round 5: Outplaying "Mr Endgame" in the endgame

Well thats it folks, I ended with a 2.5/5 score in the open section!
Starting as the 50/53 seed and ending in 25th place felt good! I had some good and bad games and im excited for my next chance to compete. Have a good day yall!
