State blitz tournament!
Lets go! Yesterday I participated in the State Blitz Tournament! It was super fun, and I wish I could go over my games but none of them were recorded sadly. So ill try my best to go over all 18 games as best as I can.
The format was 9 double rounds, 3+2 time control. You would face people in a normal swiss format, play them as black and white. So 18 total games! At the end of the tournament I was 9.5/18 which isnt bad considering the caliber of players there at state!
Game 1+2. I won both of these against some unrated kid, nothing special. 2/2
Games 3+4. I also won both of these against a 1300 I believe? Also nothing interesting. 4/4
Games 5+6. Ok this was the first of multiple times I would get absolutely crushed, I was up against a 1930, and it wasnt even close, he slowly and tactically destroyed me twice in a row. 4/6
Games 7+8. I got lucky, up against some 900. Won both. 6/8
Games 9+10. Up against a 1978, drew the first, lost the second. 6.5/10
Games 11+12. Got lucky again! Some 1100 chump. 8.5/12
Games 13+14. Lost both to the co ed state champion. 8.5/14
Games 15+16. Lost both of these to an 1100 thats now 1600 sooooo... 8.5/16
Final games 17+18. Lost the first because I made a dumb illegal move, should have been a draw, and I won the second game in the endgame with a knight and pawn checkmate. 9.5/18!
Lets go! 31 out of 78 in my first state blitz ever is pretty solid! Ill take the 1440 provisional rating! Not too bad at all!
If this blog gets 30 views ill wear a wife beater to my next classical tournament!
Good luck with your chess goals yall!
