The Benefits of Gambits in your arsenal
Hello everyone! Hope you all have had an amazing week. Here is weekly blog #2. This will be a shorter one, but I wanted to address a few key points of why almost my whole arsenal of many openings is primarily gambits, and hopefully by the end you will want to learn some!
1. Gambits are easier to learn, as quite often they are quite forcing, instead of predicting all of the moves they could do. You will just have to study what happens if they accept the gambit, and if they don't. Learn a line or 2, or just transpose into a common opening. They may seem daunting at first. But if you can ignore what the computer says and remember you are playing a human, gambits are incredibly deadly!
2. When you play gambits, you will likely take your opponent out of their comfort zone, they are less likely to have studied these lines, and it will make them think more about what to do. When I say gambits, I don't mean super popular ones like the Queen's gambit.
3. Every time you play a gambit, you will be more comfortable with the position and you will learn to know what to expect from the middlegame and endgame that results from the gambit. Which will allow you to play faster, more effective, and the deeper you study, the easier it will be to win if they mess up.
4. Gambits make the position way more complicated, which may seem daunting to a new or inexperienced player, but the more you play them over and over the more you will gain an understanding of these complex positions, and the better you will get.
With that aside, here are some gambits that I use to counter attack common openings
French-Orthoshnapp gambit
Sicilian-Smith morra
Pirc (main line byrne variation)- 5. e5
Hope some of this helps! Happy studying and playing yall!
